Does it even surprise anyone that it costs a lot?
The new Audi R8 is the most powerful car the automaker has
ever released. The base V10 model features 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of
torque. It can reach 60 mph is 3.5 second and hit 199 mph. If you opt for the
faster V10 Plus model you get 610 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Performance is
increased with a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph. The
plus model saves 77 pounds thanks to carbon ceramic brakes and a carbon fiber
rear diffuser, front lip spoiler, mirror housings, rear wing, and racing seats.
For the added performance, lighter weight, and carbon fiber
goodies, the R8 V10 plus will cost significantly more than the base model.
Audi just announced that the base V10 model will start at
$162,900 while the V10 plus will come in at $189,900. Both prices exclude the
$1,250 destination charge as well as taxes, title, options, and dealer fees.
Both models utilize the same seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission with
Quattro all-wheel drive. This price puts the new R8 in a stiff competition with
cars such as the McLaren 570s, Mercedes-AMG GTS, and Porsche 911 Turbo. It also
offers a relative bargain when compared to its corporate cousin, the
Lamborghini Huracan. The baby Lambo is about $240,000. Now that the pricing has
been revealed, which car would you buy?
